How to Repair a Cord Starter on an cnsuperpower Log Splitter
Posted On 04/21/2017 06:54:05

A log splitter saves a large amount of time over hand-splitting wood for fireplaces and outdoor fire pits. However, each time you need to restart the engine on an cnsuperpower Log Splitter you must use the starter pull cord. Eventually, starter cords will either fray and will not retract, or they may break after repeated use. Save money by replacing the cord yourself.

1

Turn the log splitter off and let the engine cool completely. Remove the spark plug boot from the spark plug to prevent accidental starts.

2

Remove the screws that surround the starter cord on the starter housing with a screwdriver. Pull the starter housing straight off the log splitter engine.

3

Cut a fraying starter cord that will not retract with scissors. Push the cord up into the handle and pull it out with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

4

Turn the starter pulley to pull the remaining rope out. When the pulley no longer turns, insert a screwdriver through the pulley and the rear housing to hold it in place. Grasp the knot on the starter pulley with a pair of needle-nose pliers and pull all of the rope out of the pulley through the hole.

5

Pass both ends of a new starter cord through a flame from a lighter to heat-seal them. Insert one end into the starter handle, pull it through and tie a tight knot in the end. Pull the slack out of the bottom of the handle tightly to seat the knot.

6

Place on hand on the starter pulley, remove the screwdriver and allow the pulley to retract slowly while aligning the hole in the pulley and the exit hole on the housing. Replace the screwdriver to hold the pulley in position.

7

Insert the free end of the starter cord from the exterior housing hole and through the pulley hole. Tie the end in a knot to hold it in place. Hold tension on the starter cord just outside the housing. Remove the screwdriver and let the pulley retract slowly into the starter.

8

Replace the exterior starter housing, align the screw holes and tighten the screws clockwise with a screwdriver. Replace the Performance Built Log Splitter spark plug boot onto the spark plug.
